that your love may abound more and morein real knowledge and all discernment
(Phil 1:9)
Paul said: the love of Christ controls us.. (II Cor. 5:14)
As we receive the love of God, He becomes the source of our love for others. It all started the first time we responded to His love. When we were born from above the Holy Spirit came to live in our hearts and give us supernatural love for others.
Now, He wants us to grow! He wants His love to abound, more and more, until it is overflowing! Although this never-ending supply of love will overflow, it is never wreck-less or aimless.
This love from God moves us into a growing knowledge. The love does not cause the knowledge; the love does not change the body of truth; instead, the love turns on the light. It moves us to where we can see and understand real knowledge.
This is not knowledge about God
or knowledge of the Christian things! It is true knowledge of God and His ways. As love turns on the light, we enter into a deeper understanding of who God really is and what He is really like.
Then, this overflowing abounding love keeps on flowingkeeps on moving us into discernment. When something other than love is driving uswe get off track; without His love flowing through uswe are driven by unresolved conflicts and unattained dreams; if we are not motivated by Gods lovewe are trying to prove something.
The God-kind of love (agape) is different. It is choosing and doing the best for another with no expectation of returnchoosing and doing the best for another with no strings attached.
When Gods love works through us, we reach out to others with the truth they need. You see, abounding love sets us free to be filled with His discernment.
I pray that you will be filled to overflowingwith His love
The result: it will open your eyes to understand God and His ways and it will open your eyes to see the real needs of othersyou will have discernment!
